Hearthstone Tavern Brawl will debut co-op for the first time

This week's Tavern Brawl for Hearthstone appears to be something of a trial balloon for Blizzard, with two players teaming up cooperatively to take on a common foe.

Last year's Blizzcon saw the reveal of Goblins vs. Gnomes, a Hearthstone expansion that debuted mechs into the game. Now, prior to this year's event, Blizzard is taking the next mechanical step by introducing an intriguing Tavern Brawl that introduces co-op for the first time.

The malevolent Gearmaster Mechazod is about to terrorize Hearthstone in "Unite Against Mechazod" and players must actually put their decks together in an effort to defeat him. Each player will be utilizing a pre-built deck, each with cards that are meant to work in synergy with one another. The goal is to take down Mechazod, but if only one player falls, it's Game Over. More information on this unique Tavern Brawl can be found on Battle.net.

This would seem to point to a larger reveal set to debut at Blizzcon, which is set to take place this weekend. This Tavern Brawl debuts tomorrow, but stay tuned, because there appear to be more surprises on the way.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
