Destiny: The Taken King breaks records for PlayStation and Activision

We had a feeling Destiny: The Taken King would be a big deal, but we didn't think it would break several records for both Activision and Sony.

Activision has announced Destiny: The Taken King has broken a number of records, including becoming the most downloaded day-one game in PlayStation history and setting a day-one franchise benchmark for both total players and peak online concurrency. In fact, The Taken King has surpassed the original Destiny launch day.

"Destiny: The Taken King is officially the most downloaded game on day-one in PlayStation history and set a new benchmark for both total Destiny players and peak online concurrency on day-one, so it's safe to say the Destiny franchise continues to gain momentum," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "Along with our talented partners at Bungie, we cannot wait to watch the community continue to grow and tackle the King's Fall Raid kicking off on Friday."

Activision didn’t disclose exact numbers for any of these record-breaking claims, although we’re sure those will be released in the near future. In the meantime, know that if you purchased and were playing The Taken King on September 15, you weren’t alone. And if you have yet to pick it up, we recommend diving into Destiny 2.0 prior to checking The Taken King out. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the changes. We sure were.
