Apple has announced its new Apple TV.

The new Apple TV will feature a new remote control that features a dedicated button that allows the user to access Siri. Siri will search through iTunes, Netflix, HBO, and Showtime to provide additional ways to view the content you want to watch.

Users can access movies, tv shows, the App Store, photos, and music directly from the Home screen. Searching for content using Siri is done easily through the user's voice. In a live demonstration, we're able to search through an episode of Modern Family to watch a cameo of Edward Norton. Siri can also skip ahead and back through voice controls. Siri is also able to offer suggestions based on what you want to watch, such as action films or films that are good for children. Users can also view sports and weather information while watching a show, with the option to swipe up to view more info, causing the video to pause in the background.

Apple has improved all of the apps that were previously available on Apple TV, and is hoping apps will continue to drive the set-top box. Apple displayed various apps from a number of developers, but the ones that has us the most excited are Guitar Hero Live and Disney Infinity 3.0. Harmonix announced a new Apple TV game called Beat Sports. Beat Sports allows players to use the Apple TV remote similar to a Wii Remote to swing a baseball bat to the beat of music playing in the background. The game will be compatible with other iOS devices to offer local multiplayer.

The Apple TV will feature a 64-bit A8 chip, support Bluetooth 4.0, supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MIMO, and comes with an IR receiver. The rear of the set-top box is kept pretty simple as it just has a port for power, an HDMI port, and an Ethernet port. The Apple TV will be available in late October in two varieties: 32GB for $149 and 64GB for $199.
