Summer may rapidly be coming to a close, but the free Splatoon updates continue to roll out. Friday night will see the Wii U's ink-splattering multiplayer party game receive yet another new content update, this time adding a new game mode to the Ranked Battle playlist.

The Rainmaker mode will require teams to pick up a massive weapon of the same name. After bursting its initial shield, the object of the game becomes to carry the rainmaker to the opposing team's base. Because of its heavy weight, Super Jumping will be disabled while carrying the Rainmaker. The opposing team will have to put a stop to the Rainmaker escort before grabbing it themselves. To make the game a little more interesting, the Rainmaker will have offensive firepower of its own.

The new Rainmaker mode is set to debut tomorrow night at 7PM PT. Look for online modes to come down briefly before then. For more information, check out the Splatoon Tumblr page.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
