Electronic Arts has hacked through the hedges to get to Gamescom 2015 and its latest announcement surrounds the upcoming return to Garden Warfare. Popcap has shown off some new footage for the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 and it appears that the neverending clash between the forces of botany and the undead is about to head into space with an unlikely crossover.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: Garden Warfare will partner up with the people at BioWare to introduce elements of Mass Effect into the game via a pre-order incentive. The 'Grass Effect' crossover will introduce a Z7 mech for the Imp as a pre-order item. This segued into the game's further jump into space in the form of a new level called Operation Moon Base Z.

Popcap also introduced a new area called Backyard Battleground will act as the game's central hub, which will allow players to interact with characters, complete missions, gather daily quests, or round up a party before jumping into any game mode.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
