The Witcher 3 New Game Plus mode details revealed; Bad news for Gwent fans

CD Projekt Red has revealed just some of the things we can and can't do in New Game Plus mode.

CD Projekt Red revealed the last piece of free downloadable content for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would be a New Game Plus mode. While they didn’t offer any additional information beyond its existence yesterday, community lead Marcin Momot has revealed what exactly we can expect from this new game mode.

New Game Plus will allow the player’s experience, items, money, and alchemy recipes to be carried over into the mode, which will obviously include stronger enemies. Some items will not be carried over and include quest items, books and letters, usable items, trophies, and Gwent cards. The lack of having Gwent cards carried over may sting a little bit more for those players who actually enjoyed The Witcher 3’s collectible card game.

Players should have Geralt leveled up beyond level 30 in order to play in New Game Plus, although Momot notes players will start at level 30 if they haven’t reached the appropriate level. At the start of the game mode, players will be able to select any difficulty level they desire. Momot also notes playing in NG+ mode is the only way players can obtain the Death Match achievement.

While the details of New Game Plus mode should please those looking to get more out of The Witcher 3, it's a shame to hear all of our hard work collecting various Gwent cards will be for nothing if we choose to play this new mode. While we understand carrying Gwent cards over to NG+ would make earlier battles obsolete, we wish CD Projekt Red would have chosen to bump up the card game's difficulty as well, instead of having us start a new collection.
