While Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 may represent the latest incarnation of a long-running annual series, Treyarch is doing a few things differently. Among them is a multiplayer beta to help sort out any potential kinks prior to launch. Activision has now revealed the beta dates and, as indicated by its new deal with Sony, PlayStation users will get first dibs.

PlayStation 4 owners can jump in on the Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta on Wednesday, August 19, which will run through that Sunday. Xbox One and PC owners will have their opportunity a week later on Wednesday, August 26, with their beta going through Sunday, August 30. Details on which game modes and maps will be available during this period will be revealed later.

Beta access will come to those that pre-order the upcoming game, which is set to release on November 6. For more, check out the Black Ops 3 beta page.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
