Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Just went i didn't think EA could ruin Mass Effect any more, they proved me wrong. m a pretty big fan of Johnny Cash back from the days when I use to listen to his records on a reel to reel recorder. This was a terrible use of Johnny Cash and the trailer reminded me nothing I liked about Mass Effect.

For those who didn't play it, EA actually did a really great job with Garden Warfare 1. The content updates and fixes were frequent, and the microtransactions they included were totally optional as you could earn coins pretty easily to get card packs. Looking forward to GW2, if the price is right.

I think EA will end up having the worse conference out of everyone.

It is so simple show in game gameplay that is all we all want nothing else.

That was the only good and proper part of the whole conference so far to me, I don't know why they didn't do that for everything?

I am buying PvZ2 for sure cause of what they showed and said.

I know there is way too much talking and real people than gameplay footage it is really weird I swear last year was way better.

Its all like weird marketing pitches and vibe, we just want to see in game gameplay.

Maybe its just me but I don't like their conference at all.

          • reply
            June 15, 2015 2:07 PM

Eh. I would rather see shaking cam footage over someone's shoulder. "gameplay" footage recorded in studio or even in those odd on stage playthroughs don't ever really show anything.

Honestly other than demos, probably a thousand word review is the only thing I would rely on to tell me how a game actually plays.

            Everything else is hype.

is it cool that they got him on stage? it added nothing to the presentation for Fifa and now people will just be talking about how bad pele was in the EA conference.

          June 15, 2015 2:11 PM

Well, he didn't add anything to the presentation. So, yeah, that's a negative. In terms of adding cred to the game to have the greatest player, who's been avoiding games for a long while, yeah that was cool.

          • reply
            June 15, 2015 2:20 PM

how does the game have any cred? they paid the dude to do a quick promo video and talk about his 1000th goal on stage. do you think they had him in studio to play it and give protips?

Your not thinking about how he's perceived internationally. He's a famous player that basically, was paid to, said this game is awesome. That'll play big internationally.

That's the weird thing. They clearly existed in the universe (thermal detonators as see in ROJ), but they don't make sense to people because they only think of blasters in star wars.

For the auditory warning to work for the player though someone has to shout something. I guess they could have yelled detonator? In the EU there were concussion grenades and these appeared in the other Battlefront games.

Don't really know what else to say to the grenade audio cue.

          • reply
            June 15, 2015 2:33 PM

Yeah, KotoR was lousy with grenades as well. I guess I just wish that Star Wars wasn't dressed up as a military shooter. It's why I really only want to do ship to ship combat. I know I'm in the minority though.

I loved those missions too, but my big problem is that they were really only fun against the AI.

Piloting skills are apparently much more of a steep learning curve than infantry combat. You end up with a couple really good pilots who just destroy everybody. If they are on the same team, that is the game. I don't think that is why they are avoiding it, probably more the technical problems and saving it for a DLC or something so they have more time to work on it. Who knows. It would seem like they could build on the Carrier Assault mode from BF4.

I kinda wish they would have shown off something other than Hoth in the Star Wars gameplay. I'm not complaining here, as it looked super fun, but it looked graphically on par with BF4, which is a great looking game, but boring white snow landscape and random industrial stuff does not show off detail very well, it looked about as bland as the BF4 snow maps. I was realy hoping to see Endor gameplay. I wonder what will be playable at their booth.
