Chattycast 46: Four's a Crowd

In which technical difficulties make for wild swings from too few panelists to too many.

We're neck-deep in E3 planning, but the Chattycast must go on! This week host Steve Watts went from too few to too many, as invitations didn't work and then suddenly did. Instead of a trio, we had a foursome of Andrew Zucosky, Bryan "Dr Games" Carr, and Josh Hawkins. The panel talked about the future of big publishers in light of Kickstarter successes, "sitting up" versus "sitting back" games, and unorthodox ways of enjoying games.

Thanks as always to those who provided our topic suggestions this week: DozIR_, Degenerate, and Hemtroll. If you want see your name in lights, keep an eye on Chatty to suggest topics! And, special thanks to Chatty user dael for contributing music to the show, and to Bryan "Doctor Games" Carr for production assistance.

  • With "Yooka-Laylee", "Bloodstained" and various other titles obtaining such successful Kickstarters and a lot of the necessary tools/programs used to create games becoming far more obtainable to the public (UDK, Unity etc), what future do you see for Triple-A publishers/developers?
  • The lines are a lot more blurry these days but what are the genres that you still clearly define as "sit up" games(on a PC at a desk) versus "sit back" games(console, couch, TV)
  • Name a game that you played in some unorthodox way or where you made up your own rules. Ever play Skyrim as a regular law-abiding citizen, load up the Sims just to play architect or log on to GTA Online just to drive cars around and enjoy the scenery?
