Two great tastes are about to taste great together. Sega and The Creative Assembly are celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Total War by taking it to a familiar place. The next game will center around the orcs of the Warhammer 40,000 (EDIT: Warhammer: Fantasy Battle) universe. As part of a new partnership with Games Workshop, Sega has announced Total War: Warhammer.

Total War: Warhammer will take place along the Old World. Players can select between the various races of the Warhammer world to play out a full campaign. This Total War will introduce the flying creature, massive monsters, and powerful storms that can be found in Games Workshop's universe, along with the real-time strategy clashes that The Creative Assembly have become recognized for.

This is just the beginning for this collaboration, as Sega is pointing to a pair of standalone expansions set to release in the future. A number of content packs will also be issued over the course of the game's lifecycle. Total War: Warhammer is set to hit PC, Mac, and SteamOS soon. For more, check out the trailer below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

That they did not call this game TOTAL WARHAMMER is a missed opportunity.

Err, Ozzie, Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 is not the same thing. This game doesn't look like it has any space marines.

and hell, sight unseen I'm excited. Wondering how the strategy portion of these games would work vs. normal total war stuff...

So this is just regular WH and not 40k? That's a huge shame.

Warhammer Fantasy has these rules about keeping units in formations. I don't know much about it, but the TW unit formations are a perfect translation of a big W:F tabletop game.

Yup. I really don't know how a ranged-focused 40K game would fit with Total War's games. Fantasy just makes so much more sense for the Total War franchise.

Hm. I'd be ok with DoW1 with formations. That'd be badass.
