In the days before the NBA turned into playoff teams resting their starters every other game and non-contenders purposely losing all of their games for more ping pong balls, basketball was competitive, night-in and night-out. And in the gaming world, nothing exemplified the razzle-dazzle of the game quite like NBA Jam.

Arcade goers would line up their quarters for the opportunity to shake the rim and hear the over-the-top calls of "Boom shakalaka," "Get that out of here," and "He's on fire!" Today, Greg Burke looks through the basketball classic: the original NBA Jam arcade game.
