EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour brings Frostbite golf in June

That's certainly not Tiger Woods on the cover. No, EA Sports has dumped the struggling Tiger and has replaced him with the new hotness for Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, which will introduce the Frostbite engine to the golf series for the first time.

It's time, once again, for EA Sports to reveal what they've got lined up for their long-running golf franchise. So the publisher has revealed what's coming up for this year's Tiger... wait a second. That certainly doesn't look like Tiger Woods on the cover. Indeed, EA has formally dumped the slumping Tiger Woods as the golf series' cover athlete and has replaced him with the world's current top-ranked golfer, Rory McIlroy. And thus, the newest installment of EA's golf game has been titled EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.

Cover athletes aren't all that's changing, though. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will be built with the Frostbite engine, which has become a staple in many EA titles. EA is touting the ability to create the most detailed courses in the franchise's history, with the engine able to render entire courses at once and remove load times in the process.

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is set to release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in June.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
