Rockstar confirms Grand Theft Auto 6 is in early stages of development

Are you a PC player waiting for Grand Theft Auto 5? Then you may or may not want to hear about Grand Theft Auto 6 yet.

Rockstar Games delayed the PC release of Grand Theft Auto 5 to March 24, but prior to its long-awaited release, president Leslie Benzies is already talking about the obvious next title, Grand Theft Auto 6.

“We’ve got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do,” Benzies tells Develop during an interview. “We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we’ve got some ideas. It comes from the idea first. Where is it going to be set is the first question. Then that defines the missions; you're doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the missions in.”

It’s interesting to learn just what goes into making a Grand Theft Auto game, but I think it’s an even bigger deal that Rockstar already has some ideas for GTA 6. When you consider GTA 5 released a little over a year ago, I guess it isn’t that big of a surprise to hear ideas are being rolled around in the Rockstar Games offices.

Can't you set a waypoint to the location and then get in a cab and then skip to location? I know that worked in GTA4.

As long as it's fun getting there, I don't mind. Driving around in GTA is fun.

Complete opposite for me. Except on certain instances, I enjoy listening to the characters' banter on the drive there. And I appreciate how the developers tried to randomize what they say so you don't hear the exact same thing every single time.

Elder scrolls does it right IMO. You have to find the place yourself the first time, then can fast travel there. It still makes exploration a thing and rewards it, but doesn't over burden you with it.

Gta is a different type of game of course, and part of the design is to make you drive around the city. But if the maps keep getting bigger, an ES type system mighty make sense.

You can do this in GTA V. Just call a taxi and skip the trip.

I wonder if they'll do the multiple character thing again. I think that was a smart move, and maybe this time, add a female character.

Still coming, before March is the word I heard. I don't know about SP DLC, but that has been said to be in the works as well.

The moment they made GT Online a major feature of GTA V, I knew there would never be SP GTA V content :(

All I want from the next GTA is some creativity in the setting. 10 years of not-New York and not-California is getting old.

The easy route would be to return to Vice City and I like that setting just fine, but I'm hoping they think outside the box and come up with something truly new.

Oh, and throw people a bone on the female characters thing. I'm tired of that controversy already and the best way to put that behind them is to address it head on.

I'm surprised they are even discussing this, they normally shut their mouth and then do a trailer after 3 years of silence.

I'm not sure what to do about the series since they've really fucked up the camera options for me. I've been playing GTA one particular way for about 8 years now and they've taken that away from me.

      Mandatory: buying property.
Secondary: other characters also buying property. you need to take over the majority of town, setup gang borders and make sure they are kept intact. missions are driven by taking out key opposition characters.
