Capcom has confirmed Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will include microtransactions in some capacity.

The confirmation comes hours after the Internet went wild in response to reports from Spanish media outlets that attended a press event this week. A post popped up on NeoGAF saying Capcom revealed the feature that requires players to pay to continue if they are killed mid-chapter. If not, you’ll have to start the chapter all over again.

Fortunately, that doesn’t appear to be true as Kotaku Australia reached out to Capcom PR to get the low down on microtransactions in Revelations 2. According to Capcom, microtransactions will only be part of the optional Raid Mode, and not the main story. “There are no micro-transactions within the main campaign,” Capcom PR tells Kotaku.

Within Raid Mode, players can use life crystals when playing that act as continues when a player dies. Blue crystals are earned through playing daily missions, while red life crystals can be purchased. Both crystals can be used in the same way, but Capcom is providing the option to purchase the red life crystals for those who don’t want to spend the time to earn blue life crystals.

While I’m not a fan of microtransactions in full retail games, at least Capcom is giving the option of earning crystals in another way besides completing daily missions. I personally won’t be purchasing additional crystals, although I’m sure those with less gaming time than I do may prefer that option if they’re really far in their current raid.
