Evolve DLC maps will be available for free

Evolve will receive several bits of DLC, but Turtle Rock is not planning to slap a price tag on maps, stating that they will be available for free to everyone.

Evolve recently wrapped up its 'Big Alpha' period a few weeks ago and is preparing for its big 2015 launch. While post-support DLC maps are a given, Turtle Rock Studios creative director Phil Robb offered a cool bit of news for prospective Evolve owners by noting that those maps would be available to all players for free.

"One of the things that we've been real careful to stress is that our DLC plans, we approached it as consumers," Robb told IGN. "First thing we said is, we can't break the community up outright, so all of our maps will be free. We would never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven't bought something. That sucks."

Robb follows this up by noting that DLC hunters and monsters would be offered at a price, but those that don't own them will still be able to play against them in online multiplayer.

Evolve is set to release in February 2015.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Sadly I missed it. I got the invite, but forgot about it that week.
looking forward to supporting them in the future, as this is an intelligent move on their part.

There was an invite alpha(?) recently that was available if you owned XCom. I'm not sure what other ways there were to get it. I'm not sure if it's available now.
