Blizzard Entertainment announced today the first expansion for its collectible card battle game, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, will be called "Goblins vs Gnomes" and will be released next month.

Goblins vs Gnomes will feature 120 new cards, which will include some of the greatest inventors, as well their creations. Two of these creations include the extremely volatile "Explosive Sheep" and the extremely irritating "Annoy-a-tron."

In addition to the Goblins vs Gnomes expansion pack, Blizzard announced the Android version of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft will be launching in December. Best of all, the new expansion pack will be made available across all platforms the game is available on.

That's not all as Hearthstone will also have feature Spectator mode with the launch of Goblins vs Gnomes. Spectator mode will allow you and your friends to observe each others' games. The way this is done is first by allowing spectators, which is enabled by default. If spectator is enabled, those on your friends list can observe your game at any time.

A most excellent Christmas present! Love the random calamity the new cards will bring.

I wonder what the real money/gold price will be. My guess is around $30 or 3500 gold.

to buy what? it didn't sound like it's structured like Naxx, I assumed it was just a new set of packs

So this will be a completely free expansion?

Instead of buying an Expert Pack like you do now, you'd buy a Engineer Pack or whatever they call them. I don't know if you want to call that free or not. It isn't a pay $X and get everything expansion.

Does that mean you will be able to create the cards with dust as well?

It isn't confirmed whether you'll use dust or a new resource but the developers did recently make comments that they didn't intend to add a new resource any time soon.

OK. I wonder then if you'll be able to earn these packs in game or craft them.

According to Ben Brode's Twitter, packs containing the new set will be the new standard reward from Arena. You can also buy them like the regular Expert packs.

The Expert packs will also now be renamed to "Classic" and will only contain the "old" cards.

The arena reward was my concern. That is good to hear. Thanks for the update.

no, like a normal CCG there would be packs with the expansion cards. You can buy those packs or the original packs. Maybe there's also a type of pack with both mixed in. In any case, something with recurring purchases and not a one time fee that gets you a playset of all the new cards.

Sounds good. I hope a disproportionate number of the new cards aren't super good like the Naxx expansion.

I've only been playing for about a week now, but I get MURDERED by most of those Naxx cards.
