Mario Kart 8 DLC video revs up Excitebike Arena

Nintendo is digging deep into its past for Mario Kart 8's first DLC pack, going so far as to add in a new track called Excitebike Arena.

Mario Kart 8 is dipping further into Nintendo's library with its upcoming November DLC pack, already revealing characters and vehicles from sister franchises. The shout-out to fellow first-party games will also extend to new courses, as indicated by today's new video, where Nintendo revealed the Excitebike Arena.

As expected, this course tosses in all of the Excitebike aesthetics, putting racers atop a dirt course filled with mud puddles, bumps, ramps, and hills. It even comes with a remix of the classic Excitebike theme music. The video also features some of the new racers set to come to the DLC, like Cat Peach and Tanooki Mario.

For a taste of nostalgia, check out the video below. The first Mario Kart 8 DLC pack hits next month for $7.99.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

There's got to be AT LEAST one Zelda-themed track in the Triforce Cup, right? Right?! :( Granted, we don't know where Excitebike Arena will end up, and it DOES look like fun. I'm just dying to see a Zelda track; my mind's been afire with ideas for how Nintendo could incorporate iconic areas from the series into a racetrack. My vote: a spin around Hyrule Field from Ocarina of Time. *drool*

I still think there will be. In the promo picture for this dlc, there's a screen for this track and an f-zero track. Then they show some other retro track and the yoshi circuit was revealed. That leaves two more new and two more retro tracks to be revealed. They HAVE to have a zelda one in there.

Ohhh man, that looks great. I'm so glad I'm getting this pack. Nintendo's first real crack at DLC and they are doing it spectacularly.
