Ah, the sun is shining and life couldn’t be any better in Sunset City, well aside from all the hungry mutants now running around, but hey what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger… right?

Insomniac’s new open world shooter is gearing up to hit shelves, and some of you may be scratching your heads and wondering if this game really has what it takes to keep you coming back for more. We’ve taken the liberty of rounding of seven of the hottest reviews so you can do a little more research and discern if this fight really is worth taking.

Shacknews – 8/10

  • Sunset Overdrive is a very different kind of game for Insomniac, but it trades well on all the experiences that brought the studio here. Fans will recognize its knack for inventive weaponry and nicely-designed traversal, but the two haven't been joined in this way before."

Eurogamer – 8/10

  • “As a game built around its traversal multiplier, Sunset Overdrive lives or dies on the interaction of your moveset with the passing landscape. Happily, they clip together as if magnetised. Ratchet and Clank always had rail sections and jumping, but Sunset Overdrive's a sugary fusion of Crackdown and Jet Set Radio.”

USgamer – 4.5/5

  • “Outside of its excellent design for traversal, Sunset City looks damn good. In fact, Sunset Overdrive looks grand. “

Destructoid – 8.5/10

  • “The amount of customization is insane, and there are a large number of "Amps" to attach to weapons to change their properties, as well as a ton of perks, some of which are really out there -- like the "Screw the Fourth Wall" perk that does nothing more than initiate an announcer who talks about how awesome you are.”

Polygon – 9/10

  • “…that's the thing that holds Sunset Overdrive together beyond the look and the humor that the game does so well. Insomniac doesn't avoid bucking hardcore penalty in favor of ... fun.”

Gameinformer – 9.25/10

  • “Cooperatively battling the OD can be a bit overwhelming given the insanity erupting onscreen, but it is satisfying to lock down the perimeter with a group. I enjoyed my time with Chaos Squad, but it didn’t have the deep hooks to keep me engaged. I’d much rather spend my time cruising across the city collecting goodies.”

The Escapist – 4/5

  • “While there's obviously plenty of room for your grim, dark, militarized war games, it's refreshing to see something so irreverent, bright, and silly. Maybe Insomniac overdid it in the screwball department, but I'll take that over another Fuse. Just make sure you don't "OD" on all the lunacy.”

IGN – 9/10

  • "There’s a great sense of tension in trying to stay moving while maintaining the high ground. And thanks to Sunset’s deep and varied arsenal, I found myself creating some really interesting combos: I’d start off by peppering the area with freeze bombs, which bought me enough time to lay down a field of Acid Sprinklers, and finish it all off with a cascade of exploding teddy bears."
