Civilization: Beyond Earth intro cinematic searches for hope

2K and Firaxis have released the opening cinematic for Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, in which humanity begins its search for a new home.

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is set to arrive in just nine days. To make the wait that much more agonizing, 2K and Firaxis are offering a small taste of what's to come by uploading the game's intro cinematic.

The three minute fully-rendered video explains the origins of the game's story. It's about as sad as can be imagined, with select members of Earth's population being chosen to shuttle off into space and find a new home to colonize.

The expedition begins in earnest on October 24, with those that pre-ordered set to receive the Exoplanets map pack. Check out the beginning cinematic below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
