Nintendo 3DS themes now available

Nintendo helps 3DS owners further customize their handheld through the use of themes.

We heard about themes coming to the Nintendo 3DS in Japan sometime in October just last week, and just like that, Nintendo has released them in the US as well. You can download them once you apply the latest system update.

A total of five free themes will be made available in today’s system update that allows 3DS owners to further customize their handhelds. The free themes offer a variety of colors, with additional themes available for purchase via the Theme Store, which is accessed on your Home menu.

The additional themes offer more colors and patterns for 3DS owners to pick, as well as special themes based on a number of notable Nintendo characters and series, such as Mario and The Legend of Zelda. A number of special themes even include animations, music, and sound effects, which we’re sure will just eat away at your battery life slowly but surely.

Today’s system update brings with it some additional improvements that include the ability to capture screenshots of the Home menu, changes to title information in the Nintendo eShop, and various improvements to the overall system stability.
