Those playing Super Smash Bros. for 3DS during late hours tonight may notice a little something cool to go along with the game's 1.0.2 patch. Aside from further optimizing the game's online mode (an area that our review indicated needed work), it'll also introduce a new online battle mode called Conquest.

Released in a few weeks ago in Japan, the Conquest Mode tasks players with playing as one of the featured characters in the 'With Anyone' online space. Points are added to each character with every use, based on their battle results. If your character wins, you'll receive in-game Gold and custom parts for use in the game.

The patch is available now in the 3DS eShop, with Conquest set to begin shortly.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
