PlanetSide 2 update begins Nanite of the Living Dead event

PlanetSide 2 is getting into the Halloween spirit with a massive patch and a new October event.

Now that October is here, the time has come for games to begin preparing for Halloween. Among the games set to celebrate the upcoming holiday is PlanetSide 2, with Sony Online Entertainment revealing details for the game's new Nanite of the Living Dead event.

Auraxis is currently infested with Space Pumpkins, genetically-modified fruit that can be found across the battlefield. Soldiers across any of the game's factions are tasked with finding Space Pumpkins and destroying them on sight. Bringing the left over Space Pumpkin seeds to a designated drop-off area will result in special rewards.

October also offers the opportunity to purchase seasonal masks, voice pack, and other Halloween goodies. The Nanite of the Living Dead event comes in the wake of a massive October update that includes changes to Directives, experience rewards, and numerous bug changes. The list is a bit lengthy, so check out the whole thing on the PlanetSide 2 forums. As one might imagine, there are plenty of bugs to fix, so SOE is chronicling the bug-fixing process with a new video that you can check out below.

    The patch is kinda strange. They've had some major hitching issues with it for many people - I'm definitely experiencing a bit of that. A solid portion of the community is kinda miffed that they pushed out the Halloween event stuff when this patch should have been 100% Quality of Life Improvements. As it sits, the event is kind of lame because you need to really grind the hell out of the pumpkins during 1 hour, random events to get anything worth while out of it.

    Checking in. Someone should take lead and get the band back together. However we need at least a full squad or it's kinda boring. Also merc needs to give up command.

      I'd take up the mantle if it weren't for the fact that I work on Tuesday nights (and pretty much every night of the week). PlanetSide 2 is still my "go to" shooter and game (although I havent checked out BF4 since the newest patch, and Hardline or the new Borderlands might steal my attention).

      You could just ask. I have increasingly limited time to play games and PS2 doesn't make the cut anymore, so I'll pass it along if someone wants to pick it up.
