Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS arrives in North America on October 3, but it's set to hit Japan on Friday. Meanwhile, a few people in Japan have broken the street date and have begun revealing some of the game's as-yet-unconfirmed characters.

NeoGAF is on top of this, revealing new images and linking to some Twitch streams of the new game. New characters include Earthbound's Ness (a surprising omission to this point) and StarFox's Falco. The latest reveal is for Dark Pit, whose inclusion was teased at the end of the Palutena trailer. New stages are also being revealed, including a 16-bit F-Zero stage set in Mute City, complete with authentic Super NES graphics.

The latest update is that, yes, as previously-rumored, the Duck Hunt Dog is indeed an actual playable character. And as it turns out, it appears that he and his aviary foes have banded together to take out their mutual enemy: everybody else! Even more characters were unveiled throughout the evening, including some returning fighters like Wario, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario (who was absent from Brawl), Jigglypuff, and Mr. Game & Watch. Bowser Jr. in his clown car can also be seen making his Smash Bros. debut, with the Koopa kids available as alternate palette swaps. The final unlockable character appears to be R.O.B., making his return from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

In more official news, today's Smash Bros Miiverse post revealed a palette swap for Olimar in the form of Pikmin 3's Alph. Both characters will essentially be the same, right down to their inability to use Rock Pikmin.

More characters are expected to be revealed soon and we will update this post when we get the information.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I'm so fucking hype for this game. Last night when I realized that people were getting the gave early, I ended staying up to like 5 in the morning watching streams and soaking in all the information that I could.

DHD looks awesome BTW. Not only does he use the bored, but his moves summon the gunmen from fellow zapper NES game Wild Gunmen.

Also Wario. G&W, and Jigglypuff all confirmed to be returning. We're just missing a couple more characters to complete the leak and then we'll be getting into new character territory. Here's hoping for Snake to return, which seems liklier now that it was shown that the Japanese VA for Snake is in the credits, and he's never voiced anything for Nintendo in the past.

Small edit check for the article. Dr. Mario was missing from Brawl, not Melee. In fact, he was introduced in Melee.

      Despite that, HYPE!!

The full roster has been confirmed - it's the same as the leak a few weeks ago, no more surprises.

It's a great roster all around but I'm quite disappointed in the loss of the Ice Climbers in particular. Hardware limitations or not, they should have figured something out instead of cutting a whole franchise. I actually hated playing them but they were a cool addition.

They were actually a little OP I remember them talking about it on The Smash Brothers documentary. People ignored them until some dude started kicking ass with them.

Still they were a great addition and had an awesome mechanic.

I'd bet on Ice Climbers coming in as DLC. I'm expecting robust DLC for this game.

And yes, it does appear that the final unlockable character is R.O.B. the Robot

This is the age of DLC. Rosters can change over time now.
