Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima took the stage at Sony's Gamescom 2014 media briefing to discuss the progress of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. But more importantly, Kojima is offering an update on one of Snake's favorite inventory items: the cardboard box.

MGSV will also feature some new abilities for the iconic cardboard box, including the ability to pop up and fire weapons before sliding back in. The box can also be used as a decoy or can be tricked out with pictures of the enemy too fool foes.

This won't be all we see from MGS5 this year. The game is scheduled for a full-on live stream demo later this week. In the meantime, check out the box in action below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
