Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I kinda can't believe they (or Sony) even bother to promote titles that are at parity on both platforms. Especially Destiny, where it's objectively going to have less content on XBO.

So far they've ripped off Sony's "best place to play" tagline and talked about sports.

I'm glad they are at least saying "first to CONSOLE on Xbox one" instead of like "first on Xbox" considering these first two games have been on PC for a while now, and MS seems to use the world "exclusive" pretty openly.

I gotta say, while I like "indie" games, I really feel like they don't show well at all. Nothing so far has impressed me at all, especially when they're often games that've already been on PC.

Square were crying about how TR under performed when it was a multi platform title.
Now they're going exclusive for the smallest install base? Good luck with that.

            • reply
              August 12, 2014 6:08 AM

Yeah I don't really understand the economics of this deal. TR still sold a *lot* of copies despite S-E whining about it, and this will sell a tiny fraction of that, so I assume MS paid quite a bit for this and I don't really understand how this ends up making sense for either party (and is obviously bad for consumers).

MS really wants their own Uncharted!

That's my issue as well. Halo: Reach (Bungie's last) killed my interest, and 343's first game completely buried it. Halo is a solid meh for me now.

Which is weird, somehow the game series with less story (Assassin's Creed) is significantly more interesting as a game for me.

        • reply
          August 12, 2014 7:04 AM

That's funny because Reach is easily the best Halo.

            August 12, 2014 7:07 AM

It didn't do anything for me like Halo 1 did. I agree with you that it is the best Halo, but by the time Reach came out, I found it a bit rote.

Which is again, ironic, because one of my favorite game series is Assassin's Creed, which is almost entirely rote except for when the make changes, like adding in ship-to-ship combat.

Halo is all about the feel and the physics, and the atmosphere of the soundscape and the art.

It's a tactics puzzle that engenders quick-thinking improvisatory combat like no other game. Great implementation of AI and vehicles that haven't been matched. Expansive level design that makes for fun encounters that can be approached in many ways. Weapons have a solid and satisfying feel, exhilarating sound design and music.

And sticky grenades! They are like tied off condoms ready to hurl and splatter their deadly payload, except they glow blue and hiss.
