Shacknews Chattycast Episode 04: Rich Mega Man History

In which we embrace our nerdy roots

9

The Chattycast goes off-topic this week, and it's mostly intentional. We open up with a new Off-Topic segment, then dive into game genres we'd like to see make a comeback, our tastes for board and tabletop games, and good games that received terrible sequels. We finish up with Ozzie's promised Evo report.

Thanks this week to LoioshDwaggie, sergeon, mad-d00d, Nerdsbeware, and SnakeIRye for the topics. Check below for a list of games we talk about in each segment.

Genre Comebacks: Rock Band, Actraiser, From Dust, Bravely Default, Syndicate, Banjo Kazooie, Dungeon Keeper
Board Games: Dungeon Mastering with Andrew, Dominion, Ticket to Ride, Monopoly, Risk, Cards Against Humanity, Smash Up, Catan
Terrible sequels: Yoshi’s Island, Mega Man X, Chrono Trigger, Assassin’s Creed 2, Dead Space, Resident Evil, Sonic the Hedgehog

You should publicly shame Elon Musk into donating to a charity as retribution. ;)

What was the Mega Man site you ran? I had one ages ago on Geocities

It was called Mega Man Network. My old guides and such are probably somewhere on the site, still, but I haven't really been involved for years. I do keep in touch with some of the staff and fans I knew from back in the day though.

Nice I went there pretty often back in the day. I had a terrible sprite site with some random news call Proto Z's Base I think. I was 10 and the name was super dumb.

I'm sad that with my current podcast queue, it'll probably be a week before I get to listen to the next Chattycast. I wish these threads lasted more than 18 hours, but don't want them to be off in Weekend Confirmed territory, either.

One idea I would like to suggest to management is an admin tool that allows us to extend the life of select Chatty threads. The Chattycast thread is one I would like to see last a full week.

I kind of want to see the article links aggregate in a single possibly pinned weekly thread instead of a ton of individual threads.

I have an 8 hour drive to make on Tuesday. I plan to listen to all 4 Chattycasts and evaluate whether or not I will continue coming to Shacknews.com based in what I hear. No pressure, you guys!
