No discount for The Last of Us upgrade

Pay $50 like everyone else

If you played The Last of Us on PlayStation 3 and you were hoping for an upgrade discount on the PlayStation 4 version, bad news: Sony has ruled it out.

PlayStation EU Blog manager Fred Dutton (via Game Informer) gave a frank answer when asked: "Alas, there is no upgrade discount." That's the European arm of Sony, but the same likely applies to the US.

Naughty Dog had previously said it was "looking into" a discount, in a statement that was also issued on the PlayStation EU Blog. The studio and Sony ultimately decided to cut the price by $10 across the board, whether you owned the PlayStation 3 version or not. Given that sign, another discount on top of it seemed unlikely.

Weak. Guess I'll just finish the PS3 version at some point. Probably never.

I have a short gaming attention span, very limited time (I have a 2 year old boy), and other games I'd rather play and take that limited time.

Plus I have this thing that annoys my gaming friends where I'll be all about a game until I get stuck, then I basically give up and move on to another game lol.

Have we seen the PS4 edition in action yet? TLOU had some muddy textures, and the load time at the beginning was lengthy, but it was still a great game. If the enhancements aren't substantial, I see no reason to spend another 50 bucks, or even 30 or 40 had Sony/Naughty Dog given a discount.

Yeah, I don't know what price would make me want to buy it again (I only played about 2 hours worth on the PS3 version), but it would probably be more in the realm of $10. I'm not even looking for more enhancements, I'd rather just have it on my PS4 since there's a lot more room on the hard drive. I have a massive backlog on my PS3, and I can only fit Dark Souls 2 and FFX/X-II on it right now.

oop accidental wtf ... there was a video showing them side-by-side:

        http://www.gamespot.com/videos/graphics-comparison-the-last-of-us-remastered-ps3-/2300-6419609

though the ps3 one seems to have been blurred a bit, strangely. They list the changes as:

        - 4x texture res
        - 2x shadow resolution
        - better draw distance, lod
        - better lighting
        - better models (they use the cutscene models in-game now)
        - 1080p60

The part about it being blurred is all do with the 4x res and other upgrades. I saw the same differences in games that were released on the X-Box and the 360 and the PS1 and PS2 before that. Without this difference and many more there would be no reason to buy a new console.

I talked about this last week and got piled on. There were no artists working on this remaster, only programmers. You do the math

They already had the higher res art?

Textures are just higher res from source. They used cinematic models for gameplay. Higher res shadow filter. It's going to look awfully similar

I don't have a PS4, but if the game runs significantly better I might pick it up (if i ever get a PS4). The basement sequences were horrible on the PS3.
