PS4 firmware update 1.70 is coming soon. And, as promised, one of the big new features it introduces is SHAREfactory (henceforth referred to as “Share Factory” like normal people), a video editing app. Right now, video editing is bare-bones, letting you simply trim off the beginning and end of clips. However, Share Factory will let you combine clips while adding filters, transitions, text, and stickers. You can even add audio and video commentary, and go picture-and-picture with the PlayStation Camera as well.

Here’s what the app looks like:

Even after the update, PS4 will still only support direct uploads to Facebook—a feature which Microsoft has bested with its direct-to-YouTube support on Xbox One. However, you’ll finally be able to export the video onto an external USB drive and upload it on any other service you’d like.

In addition, if you have dedicated capture hardware, you’ll finally be able to use that with PS4. HDCP protection can be disabled with the update, granting dedicated gameplay-sharers the ability to capture unlimited gameplay footage via HDMI.

This boggles my mind as well, but the workarounds spare it from being completely useless

How about some truly useful updates like 3D blu-ray playback support and ability to play media both local and from other servers on your LAN. You know, all the stuff we've had on the PS3 for years.
