Unable to attend PAX East? Perhaps you didn't live in that part of the world? Well, you'll have yet another chance to attend a gaming convention, as Penny Arcade have announced yet another show: PAX South, debuting in San Antonio in early 2015.

PAX now has four shows: Prime in Seattle, East in Boston, Australia in Melbourne, and now, South in San Antonio.

According to the show's organizers, PAX South will be similar to the other shows, giving fans a "mix of the latest and greatest in video games, tabletop games, game inspired music, competitive gameplay, and insight from leaders int he world of gaming."

Penny Arcade president Robert Khoo said in the announcement: "We've been hearing for years that those in the south had a tough time making it to the northern corners of the country; PAX South has always been a matter of 'when' rather than 'if.'"

While this is great news for the South, it means they're spreading the coverage thinner. There's only so much marketing budget for publishers and studios to go around. For most of them to make it to an additional show means other shows will have to be reduced.

Its going to be interesting to see how this + the whole 'made in chicago' or 'programmed in new york' regional marketing thing thats kicking up is going to affect development in a few years.

Would be funny if in 10 years everyone thought 'oh, the best fps games are made in cali, but if you want platformers you gotta go austin!'.

That's an interesting thought I hadn't ever considered. But, I could see that since it does happen at the studio level anyways.

The other shows are growing though. They're doing this because the demand is huge.

Just what PAX needs: guns and death sentences.

Why doesn't Chicago get any of these conventions?

Come to think of it, why San Antonio? At least Austin has a community of game developers. Although, I guess SA would be cheaper.
