Hearthstone releases on iPad in Canada, US release 'coming soon'

Hearthstone is now on iPad... in Canada, eh! Blizzard has not given a U.S. release date, but notes that it is "coming soon."

Blizzard has deployed the iPad version of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft in select regions, with Canada among the first to receive the iOS incarnation of the free-to-play collectible card game. A U.S. release date has still not been announced, but Blizzard notes that it is imminent.

Other regions getting their first crack at Hearthstone on iPad include Australia and New Zealand. Blizzard declined to give a specific date for when Hearthstone would arrive in the App Store in other regions (including the U.S.), but it is notable that the iPad version looks to be ready for distribution anywhere only a mere three weeks after it officially released on PC and Mac.

Battle.net states, "Launching Hearthstone in a limited set of countries allows us to focus on the end-to-end player experience and make sure it's awesome before we move on to the rest of the world. If you don't live in Australia, Canada, or New Zealand, you don’t have much longer to wait to get your hands on Hearthstone for iPad—Murloc Scout's honor."

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

How is there so little talk about this?

Isn't it insane that it's not in the US first?

Is it FUN is anyone playing it?

Is there ANY speculation on the US release date?

IMHO this is the single most important mobile device release ever released -- you're going to be playing against people on a PC, it's a Blizzard game, it's already highly acclaimed, et cetera. This is the first "system seller", again IMO, I have seen for iOs.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right corner of the internet but this seems like it should be way bigger news than it is.

Because everyone is playing it on PC still? There were like daily threads here about it.

I mean about the fact that the mobile version is now currently playable in some parts of the world.

Sure, but not everyone has an iPad, it came out as like a stealth release that not a lot of people know about (probably because it's not available in the US yet) and it's been out and people have been playing on PC.

As for a "system seller" I HIGHLY doubt people are going to be flooding the Apple store for iPads to play a trading card game. Also again, I don't see how it's "the single most important mobile device release ever released" (it's also not really a device?). Just because it's Blizzard? I would REALLY hope at this point they would be able to put out a competent and complete game heh. Small World 2 (based on a hugely popular table top game) also supports cross-platform play and while it's not anywhere close to Blizzard, the kickstarter for SW2 did pretty damn well.

I don't deny it's popularity or anything, I found the game pretty fun myself and am totally looking forward to the iPad version, I'm just saying I don't think its getting as much play because it's not that big of a deal other than Blizzard making a game that showed up on an iOS device.

huh? most important? system seller? I have zero interest in this, I think you vastly overestimate this thing.

haha right. i think you vastly underestimate it. i'm not terribly interested either, but it's going to make blizzard some money... especially on the iPad.

I'm thinking of buying an iPad for the first time ever because of this game. I wonder how far off the Android version is.
