Update - According to Examiner (via Joystiq), Edge of Reality (Loadout) will oversee development on Rise of the Dark Spark's PC and console versions, which will effectively merge the cinematic Transformers universe with the narrative from the Cybertron series of games. The 3DS version will be developed by WayForward (DuckTales Remastered) as a strategy RPG.

Original story - It was leaked at a retailer yesterday and, indeed, it appears that Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is a reality. The game was revealed at today's NYC Toy Fair and will come from publisher Activision.

The trailer comes courtesy of IGN and shows the continuing battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons, as they fight over the fate of Earth. And before you ask, yes, there are Dinobots. While the visual style suggests something closer to High Moon's Transformers games, the trailer's final image shows no developer logo.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will arrive later in 2014 on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
