Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist

Senior Editor

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Interested in Guacamelee, but it seems more like Shank or some other beat 'em up than Super Metroid or Castlevania SotN. I've heard it described as a Metroidvania though...

It is a fantastic beat-'em-up Metroidvania and you will be a happier person for having played it.

It is waaaaaay more MVA than beat-em-up. Yes, it has combo systems and the like, but that's just a result of being set in a Lucha Libre-centric world.

        It's a steal at $3.74. I fucking loved it.

It's a fantastic game. The metroidvania aspects are lighter compared to something like SotN, but they are in there and enjoyable. There's some challenging platforming sections that you really don't see in games like these, lots of old school fun and not just simple traversal to the end. Great melee combo system as well, it's not shallow at all like Shank.

I played it on the Vita and thought it was great. For less than $4 it's a steal.

The KSP image at the top of the article is current, but the one in the article as ancient! I don't think any of the parts on the ship in the background are still in the game.

Great game though - if you have any interest in realistic spaceflight, Kerbal Space Program is the game to play.
