The Elder Scrolls Online is getting a special 'Imperial Edition' with a host of extras, ZeniMax announced today. It will be available for $99.99 for a version with some physical and in-game extras, or $79.99 for a digital version without the tangible goodies.

The Imperial Edition includes a collector's edition box with Steelbook packaging, a 12" statue of antagonist Molag Bal, a printed map of Tamriel, and a 224-page illustrated 'Emperor's Guide to Tamriel,' according to the Bethesda Blog. The in-game bonuses let you play as an Imperial in any alliance, and give you a White Imperial Horse, mudcrab vanity pet, and the Rings of Mara.

Pre-orders are open on the Elder Scrolls Online store, and today's announcement also outlined some extras for putting your money down early. Pre-ordering any edition of the game--standard or Imperial, digital or physical--will grant you the 'Explorer's Pack.' That nets you a scuttler vanity pet, four bonus treasure maps, and the ability to play as any of the nine races in any alliance. If you pre-order the PC or Mac digital version, you'll also get 5 days of early access.

Bethesda and ZeniMax Online rung in the announcements with a new cinematic trailer as well.

All signs are pointing to another The Old Republic. It's going to have the Skyrim crowd to get started, but it's a boring MMO with mechanics circa 2003 and pretty rusty all around.
My die-hard Skyrim fan friend was not impressed and found it dreadfully boring.

yeah, my friend who played the beta said he'd rather just be playing Skyrim.

hmmm well, i'd likely play it on the ps4 so i'll have 2 months of PC players complaining about it to keep me from wasting my money on it.

In terms of pure solo pve, yeah kinda. It doesn't have quite the strong story element with all the cut scenes like SWTOR, but must of the mechanics I haven't found ground breaking. The biggest facet is some of the class customization options. The special ability interrupt an dodge is nice, but it feels played out after the first bunch of levels.

yeah.. we're still playing SWTOR over here after a year or so largely due to story sp. no pvp, no raid grouping type things.

Time-wise, I'm pretty sure they have. ESO has been in development for a long time.

Wait wait wait wait. Does that mean that being able to play as any race in any alliance is going to be some sort of purchaseable ability if you don't pre-order the game? That's ridiculous.

Anyone from here going to get it? I don't want to be alone in this if I get it.. I need a commitment damn it, I'll try it for awhile, just to have the right to come in and bash it if need be.

I'm pretty sure you can't do that with a game like this. It'll undoubtedly ship with a serial number necessary to start an account.

Great news about the option to play any race in any alliance. I've only looked into the game a little, but I already found that the race and alliance I liked were not compatible.

However, I'm pretty bummed about the whole vanity pet thing. That sounds like something I don't want to see in an Elder Scrolls MMO.
