Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will have better graphics than PC original

The upcoming PS4 and Xbox One port will look even better than the PC version of the game does right now.

This year's Tomb Raider was plenty pretty--especially the PC version. However, an extra year of development team for the "Definition Edition" means that the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One port will look even better than the PC version of the game does right now.

According to Siliconera, executive producer Scot Amos says the next-gen port will include all of the higher-resolution textures found in the original PC version, including special effects like TressFX. However, the PS4 and Xbox One versions will also feature upgraded character models, and an upgraded physics system that now affects the items that are rendered on Lara's character model. There's also a new particle system, new lighting, enhanced shadows, and additional graphical details, like added wall detail and more environmental vegetation.

Both Xbox One and PS4 will run the game at 1080p, so as not to repeat another "resolutiongate." However, Crystal Dynamics isn't ready to commit to promising a 60fps for either platform.

I don't believe that for even a second.

And why wouldn't they just patch all that into the existing pc version? I guess since they want people to buy a year old game at full price, they can't just give the improvements away.

"if other platforms are demanded by fans, Crystal Dynamics are open to exploring opportunities"

In other words: yeah, eventually they will, but please go out and buy a console copy in the meantime.

I got this game for free by a strange deal on Green Man Gaming... so I don't mind paying money for it on PS4. Consoles seems like a good place for Tomb Raider.

Other than it being really rape-y at points, I loved Tomb Raider. Hopefully they bring the higher-res textures over to the PC eventually.

All they need to do is bump up the textures really.

Its a shame that its not even physically possible to put the textures onto the console version at even medium/high settings.

Is it "Definition Edition" or "Definitive Edition"? Article title and body say different things...

Frankly I can't wait. I haven't played it yet so when I get it for (likely) PS4 I shall enjoy it :)

They need to add more tombs to raid and I'd buy this again, but if they're just bundling up the DLC and making it look better (lol right) I'm passing. :/

If the previous game's price cuts are any indication, in about two months you should be able to get it for about half price... $29.99.

I find that hard to believe sense you could crank the PC version up enough to make a way more powerful GPU then the ps4 has struggle. But I how it's true sense the PC version looked really nice cranked up.

I just finished it on PC recently. The graphics were incredible at 1080p and 60fps. I won't this again, but I'll play it again in two years when it is free on PS+.

I'm surprised neither the article nor the comments have specified what 'better graphics' means: TressFX for The Hair. That's it. It does look nice if you have an amd card though :)

Yes, what was really in my mind was the terrible vgx interview which glossed over the port upgrades entirely

      What absolute bullshit.

My PC with 2 GTX 680s Superclocked cant even run Tomb Raider in FULL ULTIMATE settings and hovers between 40-60fps.

So how the hell would a ps4 or xbox one, with the power equivalent to a 5 year old gaming PC, with a GPU with a PC equivalent of about £70 run the same game with HIGHER settings.

COMPLETE AND ABSOLUTE LIES. Shacknews has lost a LOT of credibility.
