Steam Machine video shows off SteamOS

If you were one of the lucky 300, you received a Steam Machine from Valve for beta testing purposes. Corey Nelson happened to be one of the chosen ones, and he's sharing his experiences on YouTube.

A video from Nelson (via CVG) shows SteamOS in action. As evidenced by the video, the operating system doesn't allow you to do much beyond run Steam. The "desktop" is pretty bare-bones at the moment. However, the Steam-on-TV experience looks rather smooth, with the transition from client to game looking quite silky. Take a gander.

Watching people play fps games with a control pad will never seem natural or right to me. It's like beastiality or necrophilia weird.

Then you must have some pretty fucked up views of the world.

If people want to play with a controller, who gives a shit? Let's all just enjoy videogames

Problem stems from every fps being made with a controller in mind. fuck that.

Who says I give a shit? As long as there are fps on pcs I won't care what other people play on. I was just stating that it looks and feels awkward as hell to me.

Must mean that you suck with a controller.

I would imagine the new controller takes some getting used to, like any new input method.

Let us hope so. I'd love a gamepad that works with FPS games.

There will never be one that's just like a mouse imo. A mouse is unconstrained and an inch on a controller is too little to recreate that degree of freedom.

i'd like to see a good trackball player try it since supposedly that's what the controller is closest to.

They shipped out on Friday so he could only have, at most, a couple of hours of experience with it. I doubt many people were headshotting on thumbsticks the day Goldeneye 64 came out... it'll be much more interesting to see how good people can get with it by next weekend.

Even a normal controller would seem easier if that's the type of aiming to expect.

Steam feels so snappy there looks great. Dam that controller does not appear natural. Seems like there will be a leaning curve even if you've used other controllers which I was hoping wouldn't be the case.
