Early adopters of next-gen consoles are typically on the lookout for something brand-new to play on their shiny new systems. So, what next-gen game did gamers buy for their PS4s and Xbox Ones? Call of Duty: Ghosts, of course.

Activision has announced that Ghosts is not only the most played game on both Sony and Microsoft's new machines, but also the top-selling game at retail for both platforms. Ghosts is apparently also the "most desired" video game according to GameStop PowerUp Rewards members.

"Around the globe, Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. It's the #1 selling title at key retailers and it's also the most played game on Xbox One and PS4 globally," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said in the announcement. "As we've said before, we've got the best community of fans in the world, and we're thrilled they're coming with us to the next generation."

Unsurprisingly, the announcement focuses on Activision's ongoing partnership with Microsoft with the Call of Duty brand. "Xbox and Call of Duty together have formed a valued and lasting partnership on Xbox 360, and we know this is just the beginning. So we look forward to an exciting new future on Xbox One," Activision Publishing EVP Dave Stohl said. "As home to the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community, it is no surprise that the newest entry in the blockbuster franchise has quickly become the most played multiplayer game on both Xbox One and Xbox 360," Microsoft marketing VP Yusuf Mehdi added.

Neither party seems interested in mentioning "resolutiongate" caused by the PS4 version of the game running at a higher resolution than the Xbox One version.

Yah the space level was much cooler than I expected it to be, so was the scuba stuff too. The SP was basically precisely what I expected. I know people like to bitch about the length but I thought it was just about right, long enough to feel like a full game but didn't overstay its welcome either.

PC still runs like crap, FOV fixed via third party app and IW is just fine with this. Such a half assed console centric developer. They hate the PC why bother releasing this garbage for the PC when you just don't care about the platform... oh right to milk the cash cow...

While using a 3rd party FOV hack is lame the game actually runs just fine on my machine and most people I know who had perforance issues no longer do .

Total baloney. It runs like butter on mine. Checked with a friend about his copy and he's had no problems. I can understand the complaint that it doesn't feel fresh enough (for some people) but not that it's not running good. Might be time to upgrade your PC dude.

Runs just fine for me. I don't get all crazy about FOV stuff and as such havent messed with it.

Note: I'm not saying the FOV is good, or that any of you are terrible people if you have issues with it. I just don't have an issue with it.

CODG is less of a PC game than BF4 is. BF4 has an FOV slider and it supports Multiscreen monitors out of the box.

Multiscreen support is a non-issue in multiplayer fps games. If a game supports it in multiplayer then that game is, by definition, shit.

Singleplayer is a different story but lets be honest SP is not priority for these games.

I liked CoD for the SP :( The MP was so shitty with running/jumping akimbo shit (with no accuracy penalty) I found myself stooping to their level and talking INSANE amounts of shit. then the aimbots came. sigh.

First CoD game I've skipped in a while. hearing the SP was shrunk down to something like battlefield would produce... it's just sad. they used to have some neat shit in the SP.

You should play Black Ops 2. It is easily the best Multiplayer CoD I've played (note: I skipped MW and MW2).

Ghosts is fine, far superior to MW3, but I would say BO2 is a much better game all around, and unequivocally a better PC port.

The single player is really short and generic but it is still fun. Not worth buying the game for though.

SP seems to be mainly a place for them to try and showcase the few neat little things that they've added.

All in all it is fairly worthless but you do see some pretty stuff from time to time.

Ok...way to reply with something that has almost nothing to do with what I said.

COD has primarily been a console game for years and years now. Battlefield has pretty much only had a PC focus. It should come as no shock at all that COD has less optiions than BF4 does.

        because multiplayer is fun?
because its a game I can jump into with any of my friends and instantly have fun with them?
what games do you like so that I can tell you I don't get why you like them?

i don't know of any cod games except maybe the very first ever that I actually played single player. id be happy paying slightly less even if they would deliver me an updated multiplayer every year without any of the single player. might even make them more money by not having to invest in the production of the single player experience as I am sure that I am not alone there.

Not saying it's the explanation, certainly not the only one, but I've been telling my "less into gaming" friends "no" when asked if they should buy BF4. I won't recommend something that crashes a month after release, several times a night.

Fucking hate the fact that the game is so much fun, because at this point I feel just as mistreated as a customer as I did when I bought fucking SimCity.

Maybe Ozzie will play it again and realize how much he missed when he covered it on Weekend Confirmed. Yes the dog takes down a chopper and yes I cried *half a tear" when Riley got stabbed. If a game is able to develop a bit of emotional attachment even if it's more of the same and the cheesy cliffhanger moment, I'd say that's art. For those of us in internet starved regions, the various stages of the campaign are our defend/firefight and sniper scope game modes.
