Why Destiny isn't destined for PC

Cross-gen console game Destiny isn't in development for PC, because it would "spread ourselves so thin that it negatively harms the other platforms."

Destiny is a cross-gen console game, but it isn't coming to PC like some of the others that are bridging the gap. Bungie says that's for good reason, since the studio isn't large enough to support too many versions and adding PC to the docket would push them past their limit.

"It's a huge challenge to ship four platforms and a massive opportunity to reach a new audience," community manager Eric Osborne told IGN. "We know there are a lot of people out there asking for PC and we know that there are a lot of gamers that would willingly give us money, but what we have to do is make sure we're focused enough to bring a good experience to any platform that we ship on. What we 100 percent are not going to do is spread ourselves so thin that it negatively harms the other platforms. So right now we have the four platforms, which is a lot to focus on."

Osborne reportedly acknowledged the possibility of a PC version, but was firm about it not being in development alongside the console ones. That means if a PC version ever does come, it will be quite a wait.

Meh, Bungie gave up on PC after Myth 2. Never expected this one to come to PC. I'll look forward to some shitty port 2 years after its released though.

Thinking back to their Mac roots, wonder if they'd just rather make a Mac version. Except they would only sell about 100 copies.

Huxley was basically a bog standard FPS but with a multiplayer server browser.

              Seemed an odd concept.

IIRC, isn't it more like Borderlands/Diablo 3/etc? Like, there's a game, and you're playing it SP, all by your lonesome, except when you invite friends/random internet people?

It looks like some sort of combo between guild wars and borderlands and the footage I have seen looks nice but nothing mind blowing. Halo is a tough act to follow. I think they should have kept destiny focused on the xb1/ps4.

Isn't Respawn smaller than Bungie? I think it's more a matter of Titanfall having a PC version earlier in the project scope, whereas Activision and Bungie made Destiny a 360 / XBox One exclusive from the outset of signing their contract in 2010 ( http://www.shacknews.com/article/73898/bungies-destiny-exclusive-to-xbox-360-launching-in-2013-original ).

So to now say "Oh, it's a huge challenge... we'd be spreading ourselves thin" is a bit disingenuous, because Bungie set themselves up for this years ago.

Considering that Destiny went from a two-platform exclusive to a four-platform title gives creedance to Bungie's justification for not developing for the PC yet.

They said they would be spreading themselves too thin, but they didn't say WHY they are in this state, with a team that's bigger than the one making Titanfall for PC, XBox One, and XBox 360. I remember back in 2010 hearing that Sony was eager to have Bungie develop a game on their platform, so those were the plans that Bungie and Activision laid out in 2010.

"PC? Maybe next game... (it's in the contract.)"

You're comparing these two games and the size of their dev teams as if they are similar in scope at all.

Okay, but I'd feel better if they held to the language of the original contract in 2010, and say that PC was never in scope for Destiny.

Yeah they are, but Respawn have only the Xbox One and PC version of Titanfall to develop. They hand picked an independent studio to develop the 360 version of the game. So I'd say Bungies hands are pretty full at the moment. Plus Titanfall is a linear map based shooter whereas Destiny is an MMO.

Destiny is apparently a huge ambitious story with over 100 hours of campaign content plus a competitive multiplayer section.

Titanfall almost doesn't have a single player mode. It's just multiplayer with some story attached.

They're projects with vastly different scopes.

Yeah, and they have a large publisher too. They could just outsource the PC porting. It's because the risk v. reward ratio isn't as good as on consoles. More competition, for starters.

      Bungie = Console only.

Plus I highly doubt this will be all that awful to miss out on - I'm planning on trying Titanfall WAY before I would be interested in this game, anyway.

Meh, seems like a poor excuse. Bungie isn't exactly a small dev. Plenty smaller devs make games for all platforms. Can't say I'm interested enough in this to be disappointed till they show some more gameplay.
