Tiger Woods looking for new video game deal

EA announced that their next-gen golf game would no longer feature Tiger Woods on the cover, forcing the athlete to find another publisher that will work out a deal.

EA announced that their next-gen golf game would no longer feature Tiger Woods on the cover. However, they failed to mention that the controversial golfer wouldn't appear in the game at all. The athlete is now shopping around for another deal to keep him in the game.

According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, Woods won't appear in EA Sports' next game. Woods' agent Mark Steinberg told ESPN (via Gamespot) that they are currently speaking with another game publisher regarding rights to the athlete. "We had an incredible run," Steinberg said. "Outside of [John] Madden, you would be hard pressed to find a sports figure that meant as much to a video game company as Tiger meant to EA. But times are changing and EA had to re-evaluate the partnership and frankly so did we."

Unfortunately, it will be difficult for a competing publisher to take a serious jab at EA Sports' dominance in golf gaming. When announcing the separation with Tiger, the publisher did note that it had the "exclusive" PGA license.

This comes off like he just wanted more money than EA was willing to give, but if this means some competition in the golf game space, I'm all for it.

Those EA games were so incredibly stagnant and not very good at replicating the real thing.

When we spoke with him prior to him signing a contract with EA, he wanted annual license fees that were higher than the annual production costs for the game itself.

Tiger Woods vs. Capcom in We Love Golf! 20XX

(I can't believe Nick Breckon went to TGS 2007 and got trapped into playing the original "We Love Golf!": http://www.shacknews.com/article/49098/tgs-07-we-love-golf )

I'm sure lots of studios will be wooing him to get into that illustrious golf video game market.

I'd love to start a kickstarter to make a Tiger Woods themed gold game. We could make a pertty okay golf game, but the meta career mode would have a lot more side activies drawn from tigers life. Like dealing with his ex wife, his kids, and wracking up a score sheetf blondes floozies... I think that would be pretty great.

How many people of you people bought a game, from EA or any other publisher, specifically because of the athlete's name (John Madden, Tiger Woods, etc.) attached to it or the image of the athlete (Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter, etc.) on the cover?
