SimCity is boldly venturing into the future with its upcoming Cities of the Future expansion. And while the future won't include bigger cities, it will include ways to help your current cities run a bit cleaner and smoother.

A new developer walkthrough shows off new technologies based on real-world breakthroughs, like clean fusion power plants, magnetic trains, and even robotic drones. They'll run on a centralized hub, referred to as The Academy, that won't require workers and can be operated remotely. These high-tech structures operate using an advanced substance called Omega, which can also be sold for a large profit.

You can watch the full walkthrough below and marvel at the many uses for robotic drones, which certainly won't lead to massive Sim job loss or a robotic Sim uprising. Cities of the Future is expected to arrive on November 12.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Looks awesome. Now give me bigger cities, or make it so you can build cities right next to one another with directly overlapping utility radii and and traffic patterns.

And if the problem is that the city that's not within the boundary of the one you're working on looks poorly detailed, just create a slight fog barrier when you're zoomed in that muddies some of the detail in the other city, but that disappears when you zoom all the way out. Done!

I wish. Maxis has confirmed that there won't be larger city plots.

With the announcement of offline, I figure this poor game is winding down

Exactly! As winterface said though, they have confirmed city size isn't changing. I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again:

I want to play SimCity. Not SimCounty, or SimState, or SimNation. SimCity.

I feel like if someone were to take the lyrics and spirit of "Nine Inch Nails - Gave Up" and put them into game form, the end result would be SimCity 5. I keep thinking of that song every time there's a new news item for this game.
