  • HDD: 30GB

Recommended:

  • OS: Windows 8 64-bit

Windows 8 requirement for the recommended specs is due to dx11.1 features that weren't added to win7

I've been using Win 8.1 on my laptop for some time now and as soon as I get get a subsidised copy of Win8 through work I'll be getting it. I've been able to configure it so it doesn't feel like you're using a tablet on a PC with no touchscreen. And it performs significantly better than Windows 7.

Win8 has a lot of improvements over 7.

The big drawback I would say is trying to get used to some of the interface elements. Some are a tad obtrusive or unobvious.

Performance-wise, it trumps Win7 in many aspects.

It's not odd they recommend Windows 8. The latest games run the best on Microsoft Windows 8, and I know because I switch back and forth between it and Windows 7 x64 and test constantly.

Windows 8.1 is fantastic, and placing the current desktop background in the Modern UI actually works really well. Now all they need to do is make it so we can optionally run Windows 8 apps in Windowed mode and not fullscreen.

When the hell did my 2GB 7850 become obsolete? :(

My only regret with my 680 was I got the 2gb version. It's all good, I'll turn whatever settings necessary to maintain roughly 80fps.

Obsolete? No. Turn down settings for textures? Yeah, likely not running on Ultra.

Completely dependent on the resolution being used. At 1080p and below I would be absolutely amazed if 2gb wasn't enough no matter what settings where used. The 3gb recommended vram seems odd.

Well Crysis 3 is several months old and at 1200p that used nearly 1900mb of my 2GB total vram. This comes out a lot later and is much grander in size, I dont find 3GB for 1080p recommendation hard to believe.

I ran Crysis 3 at 5760x1080 and it only used just short of 2GB of video RAM. Boosting Anti-Aliasing is what did the rest of the work. 2x msaa raised it to about 2300MB and 8x MSAA maxed it out past 3GB, and instantly gave like 2 frames a second.

So I guess me 8GB of RAM and a GTX 760 should be good then. If only this game came with controller support...

I don't like mouse and keyboard. Sue me.

Not as much as you'd think. I find gamepad dudes are more than able to hold their own in a PC match.

Just by pure statistics, you've likely played against (and been outscored by) a dude playing BF3 with a controller.

There's no question that the mouse provides more points of input and thus is more accurate, but that doesn't mean that every person using a M+KB is utilizing their precision in the best way possible. An analog stick provides plenty precision with which to waste dudes. I feel like a factor often overlooked regarding console gamers VS. the PC crowd is actually framerate and IQ. People make way too much about the disparity in control interfaces. If you're good at a game, you're good at a game.

This is of course assuming normal circumstances, not like a tournament game or something where everyone is the best of the best.

I feel I could hold my own in a random pub server with a gamepad. I'm not saying I'd be top but it's not THAT much of a disadvantage - if you play tactically most kills are because you get the jump on someone anyway and then assuming you don't have broken thumbs there's no reason you can't shoot em dead quick enough to negate the advantage of a mouse.

I actually played a good few rounds of Crysis 3 with an Xbox controller when it came out just because I'd had it set up that way for single player. I won or came close to the top of every single match. I wouldn't recommend it for top level competitive play, but if you're decent with a pad I'd say you can do just fine.

I'd happily wager any amount you'd like when pitting a middling mouse and keyboarder against a gamepad player, all other system devices equal. See gamepad player >>> get behind him >>> stay behind him forever >>> never die once.
