Eldritch: a Lovecraftian first-person roguelikelike

What do you get if you cross a roguelikelike with an immersive sim (that's the cool new name for games like Deus Ex and System Shock 2, word lovers) and HP Lovecraft? A hackneyed literary device. You also get the video game Eldritch, which is influenced by all of these.

The "Lovecraftian action roguelike" will send you exploring, sneaking, shooting, and spellcasting through procedurally-generated dark and forgotten places. Eldritch is made by the twin brothers of Minor Key Games, who've worked on series including BioShock and Borderlands.

It's coming to PC on October 21. The official website is selling pre-orders for $15, including early beta access. Should the game survive Steam Greenlight, you'll a Steam key too.

I'm not sure what to think about this

It looks potentially interesting. The music confuses me, though.

I dont think the trailer is doing them any good, because I dismissed it until someone referred me to this dude playing it:

        http://www.twitch.tv/sneegler/b/458930751

The actual game seems kind of cool.

That makes the game look 200% better. I was originally really off-put by the combination of the fast-paced music and the fast-edits of the trailer, but that twitch.tv play looks much slower paced and somewhat more serious.

I mean, more serious than 'omg lol stuff shoot it Elder Gods whatever.'

INF x 10. It basically comes down to any game with that style is an instant 'nope' for me. This could be a good game, but it looks too much like a Minecraft visual mod to me.

agreed. a shame too because 3D Dot Game Heroes had a similar style but looked so much nicer.

No, it's polygons. It may use a voxel philosophy for its map structure, but it's being rendered with polygons. If it were truly voxel, it would be using a voxel based renderer; which is ray traced. There's a HUGE difference.

The music choice is very odd. Not something I associate with Lovecraft by any stretch.

I think they want to make it Minecrafty. I guess somehow that music is associated with that style of game.

Looks great. I really enjoyed Paranautical Activity, which is more of a straight shooter rogue-like, but this looks really ambitious. The stealth elements and art style definitely have me intrigued.

It sounded good till I got to the video. Not enough Lovecraftian, too much Minecraftian. IMO, the two don't mesh well.

They should have went with a more varied voxel look. This looks like Minecraft. One would almost think it's a MC mod.

I read this title and think fuck yeah.

I see the header art and am about to go crazy.

then I watch the reveal trailer >_<

      Why can't people create something as awesome as Dark Corners of the Earth (first and last hour, mostly) ?! ;_;
