Game Freak, developer of the massively popular Pokemon series, is finally self-publishing a game. And it's bizarre.

Game Freak, developer of the massively popular Pokemon series, has very rarely ventured out of Pocket Monster territory. Even with games like Drill Dozer and HarmoKnight, the developer has had most of their games published by Nintendo. However, their next game is a first: not only is it not a Pokemon game, it's also the studio's first-ever self-published game.

Soliti Horse, a 3DS eShop game, confusingly combines solitaire and horse racing. Siliconera describes the bizarre gameplay, which has you switching between "Solitaire Phase" and "Control Phase." By playing the card game, you "deepen your bond with your horse and give them more power." And during the "Control Phase," you use the touch screen to guide the horse.

It's an off-the-wall idea, for sure. But it's refreshing to see the Pokemon dev really start flexing their creative muscle with something truly original.
