Satellite Reign trailer shows more of Syndicate Wars 'spiritual successor'

With only six days left on its crowdfunding campaign, somehow Satellite Reign may not quite hit its $530,000 (ish) goal. So, to stir up interest, here's a short new trailer of an in-engine "gameplay visualisation" showing how its cyberpunk city and squad-based tactical action may look, complete with a pleasing walking tank.

With only six days left on its crowdfunding campaign, somehow Satellite Reign may not quite hit its goal of £350,000 ($530k-ish). So, to stir up interest, here's a short new trailer of an in-engine "gameplay visualisation" showing how its cyberpunk city and squad-based tactical action may look, complete with a pleasing walking tank.

Satellite Reign's Kickstarter campaign only has £296,184 ($450k-ish) in pledges as I write, and funding wraps up on Sunday. It's at that point where a last-minute surge could push it over, or it could painfully fall just short.

Perhaps babies are upset it's billed as the "spiritual successor" to Syndicate Wars rather than the original Syndicate, pretending they don't understand that though Satellite Reign lead Mike Diskett worked on both, he was far more involved with the sequel.

The dream is of a squad-based tactical affair, like ye olde Syndicate games of yore but with far more freedom. It's set in an open-world city, where you can hack or destroy systems like communications, security and power, use propaganda, be all sneaky, or murder everyone.

Developer 5 Lives Studios describes this video as "Extended cuts and a few unused gameplay shots we created for the initial pitch video of how we imagine the game will play and look." It's all built in the engine the game will run on, Unity.

Looks good, but I'd love a sequel to Starbreeze's Syndicate.

The new Syndicate's co-op is super fun. The campaign is an FPS campaign. But! More of that co-op? Oh, certainly! Make it a $15/20 downloadable standalone and boosh!

Though it was four-player, I ended up playing with only chum. Once we were levelled up with fancy guns and implants, Normal difficulty provided the perfect level of challenge and fun--we could mow down individual men with absurd ease and giant guns, but could be overwhelmed by numbers and struggled against other cyborgs. Which is exactly as it should be.

Hell yes. They could have called it, "Deux Ex: The Multiplayer" or such, and I'd have no problem. The campaign is serviceable, proper training wheels for the holy-shit-I-could-play-this-forever team game.

I dig the blinding and liberal use of lens flare as well.

was it just me, or was the coop balanced for 4 players? it was super hard with 2 people often (boss fights D:)

It was, which is why it's great for two high-level players.

You can mow down hordes of plain old regular men with a grenade-launching sniper shotgun, taking one hell of a beating, then come into trouble when against your own kind.

Four-player was far too hectic. You didn't have time to feel cool.

Support agent? Now it's starting to feel gamey.

Still a nice title that should make the cut.
