Six classic Mega Man games from the Game Boy era are being revived for 3DS Virtual Console, in celebration of the franchise's 25th anniversary. That includes four Game Boy titles from the classic series, and two Game Boy Color games from the Mega Man X series.

Mega Man 2, 3 and 4 for Game Boy are remixes of NES games. Mega Man 5 on Game Boy, on the other hand, was a wholly original title that replaced the usual Robot Masters with space-themed "Stardroids." Those will join Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge, which is already on the 3DS Virtual Console, to round out the full collection of the Game Boy series.

Mega Man Xtreme and Xtreme 2, originally on the Game Boy Color system, are coming as well. Like the original series counterparts, these borrow elements from various games in the X series. Of course, they also compress a SNES franchise into the Game Boy Color, which wasn't as clean a transition as the NES to Game Boy conversions.

Capcom hasn't given release dates for either set of games yet, but given the anniversary angle, they're likely to hit before the end of the year.
