Metal Gear Solid 5 E3 trailer is brilliant; confirms Xbox One

The trailer sees Snake--operating under the delightful codename Punished Snake--on horseback, driving vehicles, dashing, sliding, crawling, and being generally Snake-y to rescue Master Miller. And yes, Big Boss can be stealthy whilst riding a horse. It's a sight to behold.

While this trailer is supposedly for The Phantom Pain, it's a safe bet that MGS5: Ground Zeroes is also coming to Xbox One too. If that's still happening. And hasn't been rolled into The Phantom Pain. Who even knows what's going on with that anymore? Hopefully Konami will stop being so coy and cryptic at its own E3 show.

How very Metal Gear Solid. Three minutes of cool stealth action, followed by horseshit pretentious dialogue, and a sniper in a bikini.

      More like:
Quiet - A Sniper deprived of her Clothes

      Looks amazing though!

An open world version of MGS is an interesting idea. I will be curious to see the reviews after this comes out. MGS4 was... not at all enjoyable for me as Splinter Cel gave me the gameplay I wanted out of a stealth game.

It's pretty much the best idea ever. MGS is at its best when it gives you great playsets and lots of tools to mess around with the AI.

too bad the story has gone full-retard ever since MGS4.

Yes, surely MGS4 is when the story started going full retard.

It was born Full Retard, and I've loved every single pregnant pause, sentient disembodied limb, bizarre non-sequitir, convoluted consipiracy theory, absurd boss fight and battle against roaring anthroomorphic walking tanks.

Oh snap! That looks very wicked indeed. The game play looks really fun, and it seems to have that great slice of retardism that I love and expect from MGS.

But I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that, much like MGS4, it's gonna be so sad that we don't get the MGS theme anymore. :(

Usually trailers aren't indicative of a game's quality, but since Metal Gear Solid games are just really, really long trailers, I guess this means the game will be brilliant.

My main hope is that smoking is, as it seems to be, a way to quickly move the clock on--as seen in Deadly Premonition??

That's what MGS needs: more Deadly Premonition.

Still can't get over Sutherlands voice. I'm definitely buying this game but damn Sutherland is going to drive me mad.

What the fuck did I just watch???

I have never played a Metal Gear game, so I know it isn't for me, but that trailer was one part video game, one part soap opera (bikini sniper? strange character subtitles?), three parts WTF. Could someone who gets it, explain it to me? It looks crazy, in a good way, but still crazy.

MGS is a story that spans from roughly WWII through...2016 or so. It has a really complicated story with more than a couple of really goofy bits/plotholes..but here's as close to a reader's digest version as I can get.

Actually, I tried. Twice. It is almost impossible to summarize the MGS franchise in a short fashion. These games have a fairly involved (yet amazingly goofy) plot.

This is the only HD game that came out of E3 that really impressed me with the new gameplay possibilities it showed off.

Everything else has just been old worn-out stuff rehashed on better hardware.
