Mojang has never been a true 'indie' dev as far as Microsoft is concerned. They only released on Xbox after they became hugely successful on PC.

...? Why not at least a sequel rather than a port to a game that's on every platform already?

Because people spend a crazy amount of time in that game.

Because a sequel would require a lot more work than porting an exsisting one, plus Notch and Mojang are already working on some other new games, like Scrolls and that space computer game thing that Notch has been working on but having a hard time to make "fun".

Those are compelling arguments? Here's mine: New platform=new game.

Like that's an even more compelling arguement...

At least mine has logic and reasoning behind it, factoring in the manpower they have at the developer, what they are working on currently, as well as their own priorities and the immediacy and necessity required.

Not to mention Minecraft does not need a sequel. It still is raking enough money and can still be improved and updated easily enough features wise to make a whole new game unnecessary.

Also, what sequel? Mojang is making two new games already. Scrolls and an unannounced one (the space game is on hold).

If you want the sequel to Minecraft, install FeedTheBeast Minecraft.

Draingored is the one that said "Why not a sequel rather than a port to a game that's on every platform already" in the comment that started this whole back and forth. I am only responding in terms to that.

previously the PC version was far more advanced than others. Now the console versions will be more like the original game in terms of world size and such.

Yeah, this will probably just bring the full PC version to the Xbox. Besides a few minor tweaks, it's probably exactly the same. I wonder if it can even open worlds from the PC version (which would be awesome). And the update/patch cycle could probably be the same as well.

So basically token support so that they fulfilled whatever contractual obligations they had in light of the E3 reveal of it?

TBH I don't play or follow the game. This is just what I witnessed my kids doing.

While I agree that Mojang is definitely an indie dev and Minecraft is definitely an indie game, I do agree with the statement that supporting Minecraft does not necessarily prove that Microsoft is all for "supporting indie devs."

If they were as willing to support indie devs they would get rid of the publisher requirement. And maybe relax the patch fee somewhat for them. Until they do that, saying they support indie devs is like a 50 year old man dressing like a teenager and proclaims that he is definitely "With it, dawg!"

this is the funny part about everyone asking for more indie games on these new consoles. Any reveal can likely be met with "and this isn't on 360/PS3 because..."
