What do you get when you mix Norse mythology with disco and funk of the '70s and '80s? You get Soul Fjord, an incredibly bizarre sounding dungeon crawler from Airtight Games and former Portal and Quantum Conundrum designer Kim Swift. It will be coming exclusively to the Android-based Ouya console.

If you think I'm kidding, just read the game description from the Ouya site:

Soul Fjord is a randomly-generated dungeon crawler with rhythm-based combat set in a fantasy universe where the genres of 70's Funk and Soul meld with Norse mythology – complete with lounge Dragons, Disco Wizards, and one badass Viking named Magnus Jones. In Soul Fjord, you play as Magnus Jones, a legendary warrior valiantly slain in battle. When the Valkyries arrive to bring him to Valhalla, the hottest club in Yggdrasil, they reveal that Magnus has been left off the guest list–and won't be invited to Ragnarok, the party that'll end the world. Magnus must fight his way up the World Tree to salvage his reputation as the baddest Viking in town, and gain access to Valhalla.

"Though the title will definitely appeal to core gamers in terms of skill and difficulty, it really has a completely unexpected, imaginative slant that's totally at home on this console," Swift said on the company site back in February.

If that isn't enough to set your mind off in psychedelic directions, then check out the developer diary below that gives a bit of background on the game.

I hope Airtight is getting some sort of payout from Ouya for development. Otherwise, this seems like a very poor business decision on their part. Regardless I hope they do see success and bring this to other platforms as it looks cool.

exclusive pretty much means exclusive for 6 months nowadays. it's a good way to steal some of the buzz of the ouya with minimal risk.

Unless the game is bad...in which case, it'll die on the Ouya platform.

Well, look at games like Fez, Brutal Legend, L.A. Noir and Alan Wake - all console exclusives that didn't do the numbers they needed to and so they came to the PC to get more sales.

All things come to the PC eventually*

*for some definition of the word "eventually" - I'm looking at you, RDR
