EA survey hints at 'new NBA concept'

An EA survey suggests it will be playtesting a "new NBA concept" this week, though it's unknown if this is the NBA Live game in development at EA Tiburon or another basketball game altogether.

Electronic Arts is apparently feeling out another entry in its NBA offerings. The company is holding playtest sessions for a "new NBA concept" later this week at EA Canada. This could be the next NBA Live title, or another basketball game altogether.

The survey was caught by NLSC (via Polygon). It asks for interested participants in and around the Vancouver area who can play the new concept on April 11-12. It also asks if participants are familiar with existing sports franchises, like EA's own Madden and FIFA, or their basketball competition, NBA 2K.

EA's last few years with the NBA franchise have been complicated. It canceled NBA Elite 11 after a poor reception, and after a few years of silence, announced NBA Live 13. It was subsequently canceled as well, and the company claimed it would be putting its full efforts into NBA Live 14. That game is reportedly in development at EA Tiburon, and the survey doesn't make it clear if this test is for that game, or another NBA game being made by EA Canada.

They should leave well enough alone with this one. 2k makes a great title and I don't see a need for another tbh, besides the cocksuckers have NFL rights anyway.

Sports development happens across multiple EA studio locations. For instance I work near a small team at EA Austin that develops the backend infrastructure of Madden/NCAA. I don't know anything about our basketball titles, or this one in particular, but it wouldn't surprise me if this is the main franchise title being codeveloped with a team in Canada and this is simply a playtest to get early feedback.

I can't wait for a QTE based basketball game with zombies and a dude bro announcer.

Sorry, you must purchase three-point attempts in the EA NBA Online Store.

If you are Dwight Howard or DeAndre Jordan then free throws will cost you $1 each.
