Rumor: Star Wars 1313 starred Boba Fett

Before it was canceled, Star Wars 1313 was reportedly to star Boba Fett. Sources say the hero of the game was altered to be Fett just before the last E3, at the request of George Lucas.

Before it was put on hold and then unceremoniously canceled with the closure of LucasArts, Star Wars 1313 was a promising, albeit mysterious, game. LucasArts was notably cagey about it, only noting that the hero's character model was a placeholder without acknowledging who it would be. Now that such secrets no longer matter, sources have confirmed suspicions that the game was meant to star fan favorite character Boba Fett.

Kotaku reports that according to a reliable source, the game was altered to star Boba Fett just before its debut at E3. George Lucas looked at the game in May and wanted it to star the popular character. That short timeline would explain why the team had a game to show, but wasn't ready to talk about its star.

LucasFilm has reportedly suggested that the projects in the works at LucasArts could still be revived by licensed development efforts, but the chances seem unlikely. Disney will still be looking to license out the brand for third-party development, so we'll have to wait for another game to play as a bounty hunter easily beaten by a blind man with a stick.

You can't put "Kotaku" and "reliable source" in the same sentence!

I read there but don't often check the comments. Is there something particularly bad about their reporting?

(being asked to transform my unique and new character into an existing popular character that presumably has nothing to do with the story at all)

I forgot where I read it, but I saw a story today saying that it *may* not be the end of development for this title if Disney decides to transfer over the assets to it's own internal studios. Considering the response that 1313 got on it's showing and the buzz it's had, it's still possible that it will be picked back up.

we can only hope at least.

A LucasArts representative said that "for the time being, all projects are business as usual", but information that surfaced in March 2013 suggested that Star Wars games already in development, such as Star Wars: 1313 and First Assault, may have been put on hold in order to put more focus on Star Wars Episode VII.

Sure it starred everyone's favorite bounty hunter. who would believe any of this tripe now that the game is cancelled is beyond me.

Well, on the bright side, if the rumor is true, then that means George Lucas himself would have had a hand in the game, which would have automatically made it utter and total crap. One less game shitting on everything that is good about Star Wars is a win for everybody.

Up until this new knowledge of the game though, I was pretty interested in playing it. It's a shame.

I always wanted a Stat Wars game where you played a bounty hunter but there was no linear story line to it. Basically you were for hire and connected to a network full of many contracts of different types of missions of varying difficulty and you chose the contracts you wanted. Basically, a Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries set in the Star Wars universe.
