Path of Exile launch six months away, expansion plans outlined

Path of Exile's formal launch is half a year away, but the team is planning yearly additions for up to ten years afterwards.

Path of Exile has spent a few months in open beta, and is currently working on a full version to launch. It's a long way off, though, as the game's 1.0 release is still six months away according to Grinding Gear Games co-founder Chris Wilson.

Wilson told Joystiq that the game is currently sitting at roughly 2 million registered players, and the team has been providing regular patches and bug-fixes as it prepares the final version. Once the full version launches, Grinding Gear plans regular expansions "over the next five to ten years." He didn't give a timeline for expansions, seeing as smaller events can be updated quickly, but he said major features like new acts would be "probably a once a year thing."

What is this, news that isn't a repost?!?

I got burnt out, but I'm sure I'll get back into it before long.

The fun to dollar ratio is high. I'm sure Diablo 3 can be fun, but it's also expensive compared to this.

      5 - 10 years is a long time.

I have been playing this game non-stop the last couple weeks. I'm seriously addicted.
To anyone who played it before or has yet to play: yes, the early game (act 1 in particular) can feel a bit of a slog. The key is to party up (hit S in game to see parties), makes it much faster and frantic. And it's an incredibly deep and complex game, your first few chars will likely be gimped at some point but consider them the tutorial for the game proper, when you have a feel for what you're doing. You need to focus and specialize on a couple things -- for example, my cold shadow is focusing on cold and crit chance (along with life and survivability, which is mandatory especially in hardcore -- game gets crazy difficult later). My melee character is focusing on staves and mana recharge so I can keep up skills with tons of support gems later. (Support gems are skill modifiers that add more damage, debuffs, etc but they make skills cost more to use)
Once you get a glimpse at the possibilities of the skill system ... when you see 5 linked armors drop and start to plan what skill you want to add 4 support gems to ... when you start seeing ideal combination between passive keystones ... the game becomes brilliant.

I got my first exalted orb drop last night. It's been a while since i've been that excited about a drop.

I found an exalted on like my 4th day since I started playing again, with my 2nd new character, in A2 normal. Was pretty surprised about that. Also found my first GCP yesterday in A2 normal. And that low level unique axe, Woodchip or something, in Weaver's Den.

Wow I didn't realise they could even drop in normal difficulty. I wish there was an easier way to get currency. It seems the vendor recipe for chaos orbs using unidentified 60+ rares is my best bet.

Do you play in groups? I know item quantity (and quality?) goes up in groups, same might be true for orbs. I've had pretty good luck with currency drops. Item drops are another story, that unique axe notwithstanding.

I used to group while i was still doing the quests. At the moment though I'm soloing shit. I've heard people say that IIQ doesn't affect map or currency drops, but I'm not sure if that's true.

props to at least mentioning the game's expansion plans. D3 is really woefully in need of new content, and afaik, have made zero discussions regarding that.
